Learn Thai the Easy Way > Reading Thai > Lesson 01

Welcome to your very first Thai reading lesson with Ajarn Lawan. This is the exact lesson our kindergarten students use when they learn to read. We have already introduced to you the 44 consonants and 32 vowels in previous lessons. When we taught you the Thai letters before we gave you the proper names. For example, Gor Gai, Kor Kai etc. This time you must only say the sound of the letters. For example, Gor, Kor etc. In the lesson below the green letters across the top are the vowels we are introducing this week and the green letters down the left hand side are the consonants. If you have forgotten the sound each letter makes then click on either the vowels or consonants to hear them all being pronounced in one go. Once you are ready to start the lesson click on the first row of blue words. (Click here for a fuller explanation on how to use this lesson.) The file size for this lesson is quite large so please be patient.

If you are interested, you can download a video of our students reading this first lesson.

Once you have finished practicing, you might like to have a go on your own without sound. We have prepared another page using all of these letters. Visit Lesson 01 Reading Page.

This lesson comes from a small book called "My First Reader" which our kindergarten students use. At the moment, I am giving this book away for FREE when you buy any books for learning Thai at Thai Hypermarket. This is a special offer just for visitors to learningthai.com. When you fill out the form, just say you would like a free copy of the "brown first reader".

Many thanks to Sriwittayapaknam School for providing these lessons.
