The following conversation, "At the Doctors" was written in Thai and English by three Primary 6 students from Sriwittayapaknam School. Awasada, Benjamaporn and Yonradee are 12 years old. They also recorded the sound and produced this page.

The conversation on this page is for listening practice only. It is for people who have already started to learn Thai. Notice that the patient uses "di-chun" for "I" as she is female. The doctor would normally call herself/himself "mor" which is Thai for "doctor" whenever she refers to herself. However, you might notice that she sometimes uses the polite "di-chun" and less formal "chun" a few times.
     
Doctor: สวัสดีค่ะ คุณป่วยเป็นโรคอะไรคะ
    Hello! How do you feel ?
     
Patient:

ดิฉันปวดท้องมากค่ะ
    I have a bad stomachache.
     
Doctor: งั้นเดี๋ยวหมอขอตรวจดูหน่อยนะคะ
    Can I see?
     
Patient: ได้ค่ะ
    Yes, please.
     
Doctor: คุณปวดไหมคะเมื่อหมอจับคุณตรงนี้
    When I touch this area, do you have pain?
     
Patient: ปวดมากค่ะ
    Yes, very much.
     
Doctor: แล้วตรงนี้ล่ะคะ
    And here?
     
Patient: ปวดเล็กน้อยค่ะ
    A little bit.
     
Doctor: แล้วตอนนี้คุณยังปวดอยู่ไหมคะ
    And now, do you still have pain?
     
Patient: ยังปวดอยู่ค่ะ
    Yes, very much.
     
Doctor: หมอว่าคุณเป็นโรคกระเพาะอาหารอักเสบ
    I think, you have gastritis.
     
Patient: แล้วดิฉันต้องทำอย่างไรบ้างคะ
    What should I do?
     
Doctor: เดี๋ยวหมอให้ยาไปทานนะคะ
    I will give you some medicine.
     
Patient: เดี๋ยวดิฉันต้องมาหาคุณหมออีกไหมคะ
    Shall I come to see you again?
     
Doctor: ถ้าอาการดีขึ้นก็ไม่ต้องมา แต่ถ้าอาการไม่ดีขึ้นก็ต้องมาหาหมออีกนะคะ
    If you don't feel better, come to see me.
     
Patient: ขอบคุณค่ะ
    Thank you very much.
