Finding a toilet or the right section isn't
a problem in Thailand if you keep to the main tourist route.
The signs are nearly always in Thai and English and there is
a picture of a man or woman for the different sections. However,
as you travel to more isolated areas you might find it useful
to recognise the Thai words.
There
are two different Thai words for toilet: hong nam and soo-ka.
Toilet: soo-kaa
Clean toilets: hong
nam sa-art
Toilet for women (ying):
Ladies: ying
Ladies: hong nam ying
Ladies: soo-paap sa-dtree
Toilet for men (chai):
Men: chai
Men: hong nam chai
Gents: soo-paap boo-root
A visitor to my site suggested
that I should include the signs that might be on the door. He thought
the door to a toilet he went in was locked until someone told him that
the door slides!
