"You
just had three lessons where we gave you an easy introduction
into reading Thai words. Most Thai teachers probably wouldn't
agree with our method of using English words spelled out
in Thai but I personally found it useful when I started
to learn to read. What we will do now for the next few
lessons is give you some English sentences spelled out
with Thai letters. At least you won't need to worry what
each word means!"
All
of the sentences on this page come from a book called "English
for Taxi Drivers" published by the Tourism Authority of
Thailand. Please remember, some English letters don't have an
English equivalent. For example, you will notice that for the
"th" sound Thai people use dor dek. So, "the"
comes out sounding like "der". Also, they don't have
words ending with "s". Normally, letters like sor
sua will change to a "t" when it comes at the
end. Don't do that when you are reading English words.
Finally,
the character Íì
which is called a Garan in Thai, shows that the
letter it is above is silent.
