There are 32 vowels in the Thai language but only 30 are in use. They are split up into three groups as noted below. Each vowel has either a long or short sound. The majority of vowels cannot stand alone that is why I have also inserted the Thai consonant "or aang" which is shown in black below. This is a special letter as it can be both a consonant and vowel. Also, in the examples below "or aang" is silent so just pronounce the vowel sound. When listening to each vowel you will hear me say "Sara" before each sound. This is the proper name and how we learned it in kindergarten.
